Tamizan started working with silver in 1990, and enamels in 1994. She set up her workshop in 2001 as a full-time jeweller & enameller. Arts Council England gave her a welcome boost of an Award for Artists in 2002.
Commissions include Badges of Office for 8 Ecumenical Prebendaries at Bristol Cathedral, and the President’s chain and badge for the Friends of Bristol Art Gallery, plus many pieces of jewellery for individual clients.
Her work has been shown across the UK and beyond, including Goldsmiths’ Fair and numerous exhibitions.
A first career in arts development, mainly building recording studios and music facilities for youth projects, has taught Tamizan a great deal about successful small voluntary organisations. She’s worked on, for and with many managing bodies & committees and now runs a consultancy for artist networks and as a freelance exhibition organiser, specialising in jewellery, silversmithing & enamels. Various strands include:
The Association for Contemporary Jewellery as Development Manager
Contemporary British Silversmiths, administration
The British Society of Enamellers, exhibition organiser for Enamoured, which toured to the Goldsmiths’ Centre, London, the Assay Office Birmingham, the Academy of Makers, Sheffield and Mid Wales Arts Centre, from October 2016 to May 2017.
